After the visit to my Endo I have record my dextro results after 2 hours of eating in order to adjust my insulin within two (2) weeks. Even though I hate pricking my finger I try to at least test my blood sugar in the morning and before going to bed which are the most important numbers of the day. Now having to do it after my meals is dreadful, but I guess I have to do it. Sometimes you must be willing to accept certain changes in to get your diabetes back on track.
Testing your blood sugar can mean poking your fingers at least 4 times a day or more. People don’t understand the fear behind these regular blood results. In order to have the adequate numbers you must change the needle constantly and have a good glucose meter with the correct calibration. Sometimes the numbers can vary depending on the calibration of the monitor and you must test if the monitor is working correctly by using a control liquid. By doing you are sure that the numbers you read on the monitor are correct and you don’t put more or less insulin than needed for the meal you had.
The importance in testing two (2) hours after meals is because that’s when your sugar levels start rising after a meal. If I have a high result at this time my Endo would have to adjust my insulin a little bit higher to avoid those high results and keep them under control. I hope that this week everything works out with my testing and I can lower my insulin dosage. Until next time!
